Firaaq is an Urdu word. Set against the backdrop of the after march of the 2002 Gujarat riots between the Hindu and Muslim communities in Gujarat, India. The film as follows of charactera in multiple stroy threads which invovles a Muslim family who returns to their home. The group of Muslim men all flustered and planning for revenge, of a young orphan wandering the streets, and the list goes on. A middle-class housewife closes the door on a woman desperately seeking refuge, and then struggles to overcome her guilt.
The story is set over a 24-hour period, one month after a carriage that took place in Gujarat, India, in 2002. A modern day Hindu-Muslim couple struggle between the survival instinct to hide their true identities and the desire to assert them.
Through these characters we trace the ways in which violence impacts both inner and outer lives. Firaaq is based on Hindu and Muslim communities in Gujarat, starting with Naseeruddin Shah plays as Khan Sahab (Musilm), Paresh Rawal play as Sanjay, Deepti Naval plays as Aarti, Sanjay Suri plays as Sameer Sheikh, and Shahana Goswami plays as Munira.
